Puppy Preschool

The benefits of this class
will last a lifetime.

Puppyhood only comes around once. Research shows that birth to up to 20 weeks of age is considered the "golden learning window" during which a puppy's owner has an opportunity to positively affect the development and future behavior of their puppy.

Puppy Preschool helps people make the most of that important time with early imprinting, socialization and training your puppy to be a well mannered, and acceptable dog in today's society.

This course covers:

  • Socialization (having good manners in society)
  • Basic Skills: Sit, Down, Name Recognition, Attention, Come
  • How to deal with problem behaviors: housebreaking, puppy nipping & mouthing, barking & jumping
  • Handling & grooming
  • Confidence-building exercises
  • How puppies learn
  • Building a stronger bond with your pup
  • Encouraging good behaviors and avoiding bad behaviors
  • How to communicate and train effectively to achieve reliable results.
  • Preparation for Family Dog Manners classes.

What sort of things should you socialize your new puppy to? Everything! Your puppy should experience a bit of cold, funny noises, strange hats, interesting textures, calm restraint, new dogs (your own dogs are not enough!) and many other things. Puppies should also learn to stop mouthing, gradually. All of these things are discussed in a good puppy socialization class. Start exposing your puppy to new things now.

This class give you the critical knowledge you need to make the most of these formative months and prepares your puppy for the Family Dog Manners 1 class.

How many times can we attend class?

Puppies may start as soon as they have their second vaccine and are allowed to attend until they are 20 weeks old but they can move up to Family Dog 1 any time after they are 16 weeks or get their rabies vaccine. You will receive the opportunity to come to 2 classes a week if you can, we suggest attending at least once a week. Most dog training classes are six weeks, once per week classes - comparatively Puppy Preschool is a very good deal!.

Why take puppy class?

Dr. R. K. Anderson, DVM Article
Puppy Vaccination and Socialization
Should Go Together

"People are often afraid of the bacteria that their puppy might encounter when they are out in the world, but the major killer of dogs in the U.S. is not disease, it's behavior. Under socialized dogs are all to often given up for adoption or euthanized. For most of the dogs, that could have been changed with early socialization and puppy training."
-- Ian Dunbar, DVM

"Puppies learn more easily with positive reinforcement they can start as soon as they are weaned."
- Karen Pryor, author and behavioral scientist

"Sandi worked with me and our puppy through innovative and compassionate methods to give both myself and my puppy a wonderful experience.

For those who are thinking "my dog is too young" for the puppy classes I found that my pup learned more than I could have imagined and we had tons of fun doing it! We cannot wait until our next class.

Thank you Sandi!"
